Jonathan Rand

Jonathan Rand brings to Legacy Preservation years of experience as a professional journalist and author.

Rand’s newspaper career began in 1970 as a sports reporter at The Miami News. In 1976, he joined The Miami Herald as a columnist. A few years later he moved to Kansas City to become a sports columnist and reporter at The Kansas City Star, where he worked until 2002.

Since leaving the newspaper, Rand has authored six published non-fiction books about professional football, including Fields of Honor: The Pat Tillman Story, which sold 20,000 copies. He has also filled various faculty assignments at the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC), including instructor in journalism and public speaking and faculty adviser to the student newspaper.

In 2002, Rand started Writing’s Our Business, a freelance writing enterprise. Since 2010, he has written passages and conducted research for Pearson, an educational testing company that prepares standardized tests in several states.

Rand holds a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the State University of New York at Buffalo and a master’s degree in Journalism from the University of Missouri-Columbia.
